They receive an award certificate, a parking spot in the upper lot, a glowing article in the Echo, and bragging rights for the rest of their lives!

Youth Risk Behavior Survey

Youth Risk Behavior Survey Community Report 2010-2011

Please find the above MS Powerpoint Presentation that displays a 2011 Community Report for high school students attending WRHS during the 2010-2011 school year and participating in the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS). A separate report has been constructed for each high school that elected to participate in the NH DHHS Community YRBS survey initiative. The data are displayed in a Powerpoint Presentation for ease of summarizing data for each question and for ease of sharing information. The questionnaire is also attached to this email.

The YRBS asks students 100 questions about themselves and their experiences and behaviors in the local community, in school, and outside of school. The raw data is transformed into percentages according to formulas purposed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the report, for each question asked, percentages (rates) are presented by groups, including the crude rate for all students in our school , and rates for subgroups by grade in school and sex of students. For each group, the local rate (high school) is presented along with the statewide rate for all students in that group. Overall, 35,040 students participated statewide. The number of students for each group that participated statewide (represented in the denominator of each rate) is shown on slide 5, and number of students in our high school is presented on slides 6-8 for the group of interest. Please be advised that, since not all students respond to each item on the survey, the denominator for each rate varies. Thus, the sum of all boys and girls usually does match the total number of students surveyed in a given school.

The report is produced by the Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Services

NECAP Results

The NECAP scores for the 2011 test administration were released on 1/31/12. Please review this recent parent letter sent home about the results for WRHS.

NWEA Testing and the Results

When the District began work on the English Language Arts Curriculum and the Math Curriculum it was decided to use the new Common Core Standards which the State of New Hampshire has accepted. These will replace the grade level expectations and the grade level standards that the state currently uses. Along with the Common Core Standards will also come a new standardized test. The test that will relate to the Common Core is in development now. The Core Standards go into greater depth and better define the skills that students are expected to know. Our Director of Curriculum, Mrs. Gannett, spoke with the representatives from NWEA and they too are building a new test around the Common Core. Due to this change, the scores of the NWEA may vary. It takes several years to get ready for new tests and new standards, as a District we wished to begin early so that we will be prepared.

AlertNow System for Attendance

Winnisquam Regional High School uses a feature of the AlertNow Communications System to inform parents or guardians about a student's absence from the school. This enhances communication and provides another measure of safety for students who attend Winnisquam Regional High School.

AlertNow is also the communication system used to disseminate information about school closings and delays. A rapidly dispatched phone message is sent out to all families that have a student here. The calls presently go to the home phones and cells of staff and students listed in the MMS school management system. The first contacts listed receive the calls, so please check the online grade book to confirm contact information.

The attendance feature contacts the same parents or guardians of students about absenteeism. The parent or guardian will then have the opportunity to call in and contact the attendance secretary at 286-4531 ext 100 if the information given was incorrect.

Calls go out automatically at 9:25 AM. The message says, "This is an automated message from Winnisquam Regional High School to confirm that (student's name) is absent. You do not need to call the school if this is correct, however, if this is not correct please contact the high school."

The purpose of the AlertNow system is for Winnisquam High School to continue our level of safety, communication, and partnerships with the families within this district. Please be patient as we test the system and work out the details these first few days of school. If you have suggestions, please let us know, thank you.
