Superintendent’s Message
Tammy Davis, Ph.D.
July, 2006
I’m delighted to have been selected as the Superintendent of
the Winnisquam Regional School District.
I believe that the Winnisquam School District has absolute commitment and dedication
to student learning. That’s what
attracted me to uprooting myself from Delaware as Assistant Superintendent and
join Winnisquam’s quest to improve student learning results.
I have been in education for 21 years. I graduated in 1984 from Concord College located in Athens, WV with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a specialization in Reading. In 1990, I received a Master’s Degree from The Ohio State University in Literature, Language Arts, and Reading. I graduated in 2001 with a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in Educational Administration.
Winnisquam’s test scores from NECAP in 2005-06 indicate that 65% of our students were proficient in reading, 55% in math, and 55% in writing. In reading, we are comparable to the state, higher than the state in writing and lower than the state in math. These scores reflect positive accomplishments in student learning results as well as areas for improvement. It is evident that the Board, administrators, teachers, parents, and community members are engaging in conversations about learning that will ultimately affect the future of our children and how they will contribute to our society.
I believe that it is our job to inspire and challenge every student every day. As the world changes, the educational needs for post-secondary graduates to join the workforce are different today than they were 10 or 20 years ago. No Child Left Behind is also raising the bar for schools to examine teaching practices that will provide rigorous, standards-based curriculum that will meet the learning needs of all students. Therefore, I believe that we have the quality of teaching in the Winnisquam School District to rise to the challenge of designing instruction to ensure all students succeed and to improve the percentage of students scoring proficient or better in the 2006-2007 school year.
I am excited to be here and look forward to interacting, listening, and working collaboratively with students, teachers, parents, and the community. Only through working together and problem solving as a team will we make the progress needed to inspire and challenge every student every day for improved learning results.
