The WRSD is dedicated to providing all students with the knowledge, skills, tools, and opportunities that enable them to develop their full potential and be successful in meeting their career goals. Southwick School Goals & Strategies
1. Design a stronger core instructional program and RtI system for all students through the implementation of standardized tests and various curriculum assessments which assess reading and math (STAR, Smarter Balanced, etc.)
- Use the data coach (and data team) or RtI team to optimize core instructional practices and identify RtI based on assessment feedback
- Establish three points of data, including STAR, Smarter Balanced and various assessments as defined by administrators and teachers aligned to the College and Career Readiness Standards
- Establishing a Response to Instruction (RtI) school plan for structure, schedule, professional development, assessment and intervention
- Establishing a school plan for optimizing and measuring the use of instructional time - Possible schedule redesign
- Increase the integration and use of Google Sites, Drive and other Google/web based tools and using them for teaching, learning, assessing and professional use at every grade level.
- Identify key indicators of:
Observable student engagement
Student to teacher feedback
Focus group interviews/conversations with students
- Investigate and create opportunities to increase student voice, choice and leadership skills in meaningful ways.
- Develop a Standards Based report card, aligned to the College and Career Readiness Standards
- Establish a plan for ensuring that students are on grade level by grade 3, and on level for grade 5 moving into grade 6
- Establish a plan for consistently reviewing and improving on the student transitions from primary to Upper, ES to MS
- Must include the type of technology necessary, along with inquiry, project, STEM, community, and team-based instruction/learning where teachers shift from a strictly teacher centered approach to one of facilitator of learning
- Participate in district long-range and library committees to develop a plan for enhancing library use and technology for increased student engagement
- Engage in dialogue and plan for linking teacher effectiveness to a portion of compensation to student outcomes.
- Set up "I go to" college awareness activities at the elementary level
- Employ ongoing standards monitoring and take corrective action as needed.
- Set up a system for determining how to adjust priorities and allocate resources at the school level
- Identify the important elementary level programs to evaluate; and collect data for determining the program's effectiveness
- Identify the programs and practices that are not proven to be high-yield and to select and focus on those that are, at the school level
- Adjust the budget to meet priorities
- Optimize the functioning of internal operations with regard to efficiency, effectiveness, and cost at the school level
- Enhance the functionality and impact of the school website for internal and external users
- Enhance technology to support internal school communication strategies
