Southwick School follows the federal and state guide lines for special education processes and services.Southwick School provides services according to the needs of the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP).
A student's placement is always made keeping in mind the "least restrictive environment". Students need to have access to the general curriculum on a regular basis. Students may have instruction from the general education teacher as well as the special education teacher. Specific goals and objectives are developed by the IEP Team to meet the needs of the student. Some services may be provided in the classroom, while some other services may be provided outside of the regular classroom. Support from a paraprofessional, due to extended learning or physical disabilities, are determined by the IEP Team. Team meetings are held once a year to review the student's progress.
