This year students at Sanbornton Central will benefit from having a computer lab sporting 24 new dual core student workstations. The school also possesses a mobile laptop cart containing 20 notebook computers that can access the school’s network wirelessly. Teachers can use these machines to integrate computer use into their classroom curriculum.
While younger students generally use the computers to access interactive educational programs and websites, they also get typing and general computer use practice. Older students also learn to use Microsoft Office software. Student papers are written using MS Word and later in the year many students will learn to work with Excel spreadsheets and create PowerPoint presentations. Students can also use the computers to do guided research on topics assigned by their teachers.
Hello,
My name is Ken Bolia. I’m new to Sanbornton Central this year and I’m very happy to be working as a member of this fine school’s team of educators. I have four years experience as an educator, having taught high school science. This experience was gained in the employ of a private school that served boys with serious behavioral issues. It has been a refreshing change for me to serve Sanbornton’s delightful population of elementary students, not only because of their pleasant demeanors but also because they are the same age as my own children.
My other experience includes computer network administration, building fun little websites like this one, building and repairing computers, and flying Blackhawk helicopters for the U.S. Army. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Geology, a NH teacher’s certification, and I’m working on a second bachelor’s in computer animation. I’ll be happy to share any of my more advanced computer experience with any of SCS’s little computer aficionados (aka geeks). :-)
