Plant Science Applications

 

 Students enrolled in this year-long course will learn the basics of plant anatomy and physiology, propagation, soils, pest control, etc.   Detailed units on outdoor equipment operation, greenhouse management and floral design will be covered.  Greenhouse production will be a significant undertaking as will outdoor landscaping jobs and floral design projects. The class will work cooperatively with horticultural businesses and public agencies in the community.  Students will also be given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills.  Class meets every day.

 

Credits:  2 science electives

 

All Students Grades 10 - 12

 

Prerequisite:  Ag Science

 

 

What do Plant Science Students Do?

  • Learn landscaping skills & techniques

  • Create floral designs such as corsages, centerpieces, wreaths & bouquets

  • Grow greenhouse crops

  • Operate outdoor equipment

  • Learn to identify a wide variety of plants

  • Study plant anatomy & physiology

  • Perform community service

  • Develop leadership skills
